Luxilon Strings
Choosing The Right Luxilon String
Luxilon has been developing strings since 1987. Their first string, Big Banger Original, was launched in 1991 and the Big Banger Alu Power in 1994. Both strings had immediate success on both the men's and women's pro tours. This success has continued over the years as Luxilon has added new strings to their offerings. Now they are the definitive choice for pro players with 71% of the ATP Top 100 and 62% of the WTA playing with Luxilon strings. Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Kei Nishikori, Andy Murray, David Ferrer, Milos Raonic, Grigor Dimitrov, Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic, Sara Errani and so many others all play with Luxilon strings!
Monofilament
Luxilon Alu Power (16L or 15)
Luxilon Alu Power is Luxilon's most popular string and the most popular string on the ATP and WTA tours (used by more than 50% of the Top 100 pros). Alu Power is a co-polymer composition, made using nylon, fluocarbon resin and aluminum fibers. The resulting string offers loads of control-oriented response along with great durability and spin potential.
Luxilon Alu Power comes in 16L (1.25 mm) and 15 (1.38 mm) gauges. It also comes in a few different variations. Alu Power Rough 125 is constructed the same way as Alu Power, but with a unique dented surface texture that increases spin potential and gives the string a slightly softer feel. Luxilon Alu Power Spin 127 is made up of the same materials as Alu Power but has a pentagonal shape for more bite into the ball and enhanced spin potential. Luxilon Alu Power Soft 125 offers a significantly softer feel than Alu Power. This will appeal to those players looking for more comfort and feel out of their Alu Power, but retaining the spin-friendly benefits the string is known for.
Luxilon 4G - 4GS
Luxilon 4G is a monofilament co-polyester string that was designed to offer maximum tension maintenance. The molecular chains making up 4G are strategically aligned in a parallel fashion, minimizing entanglement to ensure less creep which leads to tension loss. Luxilon 4G is on the firm side of the spectrum, even compared to other co-polyester strings. However, the string still offers a good deal of playability and great durability. As with most co-polyester strings, we recommend stringing 4G with a tension that is approximately 10% lower than you would string with a nylon string.
Luxilon offers 4G in 16L (1.25 mm), 16 (1.30 mm) and 15 (1.41 mm) gauges. They also offer the 16L gauge in a rough version. Luxilon 4G Rough 125 has a the same "dented" surface texture as Alu Power Rough. This allows the string to bite into the ball more, increasing spin potential and creating a slightly softer feel.
Luxilon Big Banger Original
Luxilon Big Banger Original 130 was Luxilon's first co-polymer string and is still popular with hard-hitting players looking for lots of control and spin potential. Like most of Luxilon's strings, Big Banger Original also has above-average tension maintenance and durability.
Luxilon offers Big Banger Original only in the 16 (1.30 mm) gauge.
Luxilon Timo
According to Luxilon, the addition of titanium and molybdenum, two materials used in aeronautics, provides Luxilon Timo with its unique characteristics. Although it's the thinnest string in the Big Banger series, it still offers excellent playability. Furthermore it maintains the durability Luxilon is known for, even in the thin gauges it is offered in.
Luxilon offers Timo in 17 (1.17 mm) and 18 (1.10 mm) gauges.
